The Pilot Research Program is an administrative mechanism to support innovative NHP studies using facilities and expertise provided by NPRCs. This program serves as a regional, national and international resource for the entire biomedical research community. Pilot research must include activities related to the use of NHPs for biomedical research or for studies enhancing the welfare or husbandry of NHPs. Pilot research should be developmental or high risk, with the goal of generating preliminary data necessary to apply for support from sources of funding such as NIH R01 grants.

The number of projects supported by each NPRC can vary depending on the availability of funds and is at the discretion of the Center Director. Additional information regarding submission dates and requirements for specific NPRCs may be obtained by selecting the appropriate center of interest.
